About this site

Motofiches is an independent enthusiast site about why a motorcycle behaves the way it does — geometry, layout, and the compromises underneath.

Every piece here takes one mechanism and states the compromise it forces. Trail buys stability and charges for it in steering effort. A flat twin buys cooling and low mass and pays in width. The telescopic fork buys cheapness and familiarity and pays in dive, stiction and a load path no engineer would choose from scratch. That is the whole editorial idea, and it is why the pieces are short and there are only twenty of them.

There are no reviews here, no rankings, no scores, no buying advice and no riding instruction. Manufacturers and long-produced machines are named where they are the clearest example of an engineering decision — never as a recommendation.

Where a figure, a name or a sequence of events appears, it comes from the piece it sits in and is stated as plainly as we can manage. Where something is contested or not knowable from the outside, the piece says so rather than rounding it into a number.

How it is organised

Six sections, from the input a rider actually makes to the instruments that measure what happened. Steering and Geometry come first because everything else negotiates against them; Measurement comes last because it is how any of it is known at all.
